Dear russell , ii hope uue will publish this story because it`s true . it really is.
as a stylist with a top salon , ii work lonq hours and dont have much time to socialize . most of my cilents are women aniwae .
ii tried datinq services and qone on blind dates bud all have come up duds . ii`d like to tink that ii`m reasonably attractive and that ii have a qreat personality . bud somehow , Mr riqht has not appeared yet . so out of boredom sometimes , ii loq on to the net and qo into cyber chatroom . uue can have some stimulatinq conversation at times . it`s a qood way to kill time .
hardlly anione uses their real name wen they chat . instead they use wad is referred to as a "handle" . ii used the handle "rain " becus ii am a deep romantic at hart. unlike some pple , ii love rainy daes and snuqqle up under my blanket and listen to mushy lovey-dovey CDs.
ii clearly rmb the nite of AUGUEST 21 ,2006 , becus it was my 24th birthdae and ii was celebratinq alone .
after qoin throuqh my e-mail , ii decided to qo to my favourite chatroom - the Baltimore inner harbour .
althouqh based in balitimore , mani sinqaporeans of all aqes frequented that chatroom . there were many requlars that ii "knew" and felt comfortable ith even thouqh ii had never met dem inperson before.
ii noticed a newcomer there who called himself YANDOW , which means handsome in hokkien . " mus be an ah benq who tinks the world of himself " . ii said to myself .
funnily enouqh , his enqlish wad excellent and he was witty , charminq and had a qret sense of umour . the qals in the chatroom were drawn to him like bees to honey .
ii discovered that we had so much tto tok about . this yandow quy wad actually more interestinq then anione ii had been out with .
we continued chattinq throuqhout the niqht , oblivious to everyone else in the chatroom.
we make"dates " at certain times to chat and this continued for a few weeks . ii was captivated by his personality .
it`s possible ii quess fur love to blossom on the net and ii noe of few pple who eventually tied a knot after meetinq throuqh a cyber chatroom . once i was away in phuket on holidae for a week and he couldnt find mi in the chatroom . accordinq to my fwens who email mi , he was forlorn and kept writinq ," rain rain , where are ue ? dont uue wan mi anymore "?
this may sound very silly bud ii felt touched that anyone could miss mi that much . eventually ii qave him my email add and he would send mi the most romatic , touchinq notes and e-card which ii keep this every day .
ii found out that he was a freelance writer whose real name was nick lee and that he was a year older den mi . he told mi that his aspiration was join the straits times and become a top journalist .
althouqh we wanted to meet each other baldy , we felt shy and kept puttinq it off . aniwae , ii was quite content sendinq him email , confidinq in him and tellinq him my problems.
this wen on for almost a year. we would set time to meet up at a bookshop , either poppular or times or MPH bud one or the other woulf chicken out at the last minutes.
finally , he told mi that he was secured a place in the straits times as a crime reporter and tokd mi to look for his byline on auqust 21 , which was coincidentally my birthdae.
ii felt so proud of him . and the 1st tinqs ii did on my 25th birthdae was scour the new paqes for nick 1st story .
ii wan throuqh the entire paper bud dere was no trace of his byline . ii was abt to qibe up wen ii saw the name nick lee in the place where ii least expected it - in the" memorials" , markinq the 1st anniversary of his death ! .
he was jus as handsome and dashinq as his handle yandow had implied . it turned out that he had been traqically killed in a motorbike accident . my mind was in turmoil . wad it a crazy prank tat some sicko pulled on mi ? he sounced so sincere . we ahd make plans abt finally meetinq up and even talked abt possible names for our future children .
ii neever receive another email or "saw" yandow in the chatroom ever aqain .
whether it somethinq supernatural or someone tuqqinq at a lonely woman`s hart , ii do not noe .
ii do noe that ii still miss my yandow to this every dae.
